An Ass that was being driven along the road by his Master,
started on ahead, and, leaving the beaten track,
made as fast as he could for the edge of a precipice.
When he was just on the point of falling over,
his Master ran up, and seizing him by the tail,
endeavoured to pull him back; but the Ass resisting and pulling the contrary way,
the man let go his hold, saying,
“Well, Jack, if you will be master, I cannot help it.
A wilful beast must go his own way.”
